2015 Harvest Recap
Harvest came early this year, with the first fruit arriving at the Edgefield Winery on August 17. We processed just shy of 400 tons, and the last wine, our Estate Syrah, was pressed off October 26. The early harvest meant we had beautiful weather throughout crush. The warm summer months should result in lush wines with plenty of fruit, so look for those to be released in the next few years.

Lonesome Spring Ranch
Vineyard Spotlight:
Lonesome Spring Ranch

Located next to Red Mountain in Yakima Valley, Lonesome Spring Ranch is the source for many of our more unusual grapes, including our traditional port varietals: Touriga Nacional and Souzao. In our ten years working with fruit from the vineyard, we have incorporated it into many of our favorite wines, such as the Cuvée de L’Abri Rouge (Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault), the Umbrella Jimmy Rosé (a field blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, and Counoise), the Fireside Early Muscat and Fireside Tradicional, and our 2013 Ferryman’s Choice, which is a single-varietal bottling of Malbec. Fun Fact: Prior to being planted to grape vines, the site was home to an apricot orchard.
Recent Releases Featuring Lonesome Spring Ranch Fruit: 2012 Cuvée de L’Abri Rouge, 2011 Fireside Early Muscat, 2009 Fireside Tradicional, 2014 Riesling, 2013 Ferryman’s Choice, 2014 Umbrella Jimmy Rosé
Douro
Wine Region Spotlight: Douro
Edgefield Winery began producing the Fireside lineup of fortified dessert wines in 1992. The program is inspired by the Port wines of the Douro Valley in Northern Portugal. These wines are made by stopping fermentation early by the addition of high-proof grape spirits (fortification), retaining much of the natural grape sugar. We then age the wines in neutral oak barrels for several years (or for up to 16 years in the case of our Fireside Late Bottled Vintage Zinfandel).
The Douro is the third oldest protected wine region in the world and is most famous for its sweet fortified dessert wines, although they produce dry table wines as well. Port’s history is also strongly tied to England because British importers in the 17th Century found that the fortified wines would appeal to the English palate as well as hold up to the long sea voyage to England.

Ports come in a number of styles. Our Fireside wines are made similarly to Colheitas, meaning they’re tawny-style Port wines from a single vintage, aged in barrel rather than in bottle.
WIne for the Holidays
Wines for the Holidays
Choosing the perfect wines for holiday gatherings can seem challenging, so we’ve put together some suggestions that will make your selection simpler.

Thanksgiving: Our 2014 Gamay Noir ($22) or 2013 Zinfandel ($26.75) are both excellent choices for the traditional Thanksgiving feast. If you’re more of a white wine drinker, an aromatic varietal such as our 2014 Viognier ($22) will highlight the lush fall flavors without overwhelming them.
Host/Hostess Gifts: When picking out wine for a gift, choose one that pairs with a variety of foods. Our 2012 Cuvee de L’Abri Rouge ($26.75) and our 2013 Pinot Noir ($17) are great choices for crowd-pleasing red wines. If you’d like to bring a white, our 2014 Pinot Gris ($17) is a winner.
Christmas Wine
Christmas: The rich red meats often found at the Christmas dinner table call for big, spicy red wines such as our Northern Rhone-inspired 2012 Syrah ($26.75). For lighter fare, try a white wine such as our 2014 VS Chardonnay ($22). After dinner, our Fireside Port collection can accompany dessert. For a classic English pairing, try our 2009 Fireside Zinfandel ($22) with Stilton cheese, walnuts and figs. If you’d like something a little sweeter, our 2011 Fireside Muscat ($22) pairs with traditional Christmas cakes such as Panettone or Rum Baba.
And remember: bubbles go with everything! Our 2011 Blanc de Noirs ($26.75) is excellent for any occasion. For a special aperitif, add a splash of Crème de Cassis to each flute to make a Kir Royale. And Wine Club members – remember your 15% discount on all of the wine prices listed above!
