This golden-hued, white dessert wine has a rich bouquet of apricot, mesquite honey, toasted marshmallow, sweet biscuit, Amaretto, and orange zest. On the palate, dried apricot and honey predominate with subtle almond notes carrying throughout the long finish.
Food Pairing Notes
Our Fireside Muscat is excellent with fruit and cream based desserts, such as Tarte Tatin and Crème Brûlée. It is also lovely with toasted Marcona almonds or as an accompaniment to vanilla ice cream or biscotti.
This wine was made by the traditional method of harvesting and fermenting ripe grapes, then stopping the fermentation mid-way through by the addition of neutral grape spirits (high-proof brandy). This leaves the final wine with elevated levels of both sugar and alcohol.
In France, fortified dessert wines made in this manner are known as “vins doux naturel” (natural sweet wine) because the sweetness in the finished wine comes from the natural grape sugars. Our Fireside Muscat is made in the style of a Southern Rhône vin doux naturel: Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise.
