Ferryman’s Choice is our vehicle for small, distinctive releases. In 2015 this led to a "Super Tuscan"-inspired blend of Sangiovese, Malbec, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The result is a medium bodied, approachable wine with notes of strawberry jam, blueberry, cola, sundried tomato, and white pepper.

Food Pairing Notes
The lighter body of this blend makes it a good choice for cheese plates and tomato-based pasta dishes.
Production
“Super Tuscan” was coined in the 1980s to describe a new generation of Italian wines that blended traditional Italian varietals like Sangiovese with non-indigenous grapes like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. The most famous example is Antinori’s Tignanello, a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc.
Other Notes
The Ferryman’s Choice label is based on a 2011 painting that hangs at the Wilsonville McMenamins Pub. The title is “Boone Ferryman”, and the name “Charon” appears at the top of the original in Greek characters. The painting overlaps the ancient Greek story of Charon, the Ferryman of the River Styx, with Wilsonville history. Alphonso Boone, a grandson of Daniel Boone, came to the Oregon Territory in the 19th Century and established a ferry service on the banks of the Willamette River at what would later be the town of Wilsonville. Here, Alphonso is depicted as a kind of Charon of the Wild West.
