The process by which fortified wine is made makes it sweeter (and higher in alcohol) which is why it’s often served as a dessert wine. It’s the perfect touch of sweetness at the end of a meal. Our 2003 LBV Zinfandel has been ageing in barrel 14 years and we can’t wait to share it with you.
Harvest 2017

Here in the Pacific Northwest, we were blessed with a beautiful, dry and warm summer. Fruit set was perfect and ripening was at a slow and steady pace in both Oregon and Washington. We were gently led into a cool, rainy fall and back to September autumn sunshine, which is ideal. Harvesting in fall when days are warm and nights are cool is perfect for hang time; not risking over ripeness and achieving a phenolic balance. While we were worried about smoke taint from all the fires, the fruit all smells wonderful and savory.

As we are through processing the grapes and barreling down in the cellar, the time to celebrate another great vintage is almost here. We are thankful for our hardworking cellar crew and our interns from around the world. We’ve seen lots of laughs, sweat, cleaning and minimal tears.

Thank you for your continued support, which allows us to do what we love. We look forward to seeing you in the winery so we can raise a glass together. Cheers to the 2017 vintage.
Spotlight on Sparkling Wines

Sparkling wines are fantastic with many foods as they tend to be lower in alcohol and higher in acid than other wines. Sparkling wines are celebratory and fun to serve and drink. In anticipation of the festivities in the months to come, we’re featuring our 2014 Blanc de Noir, and a little history on the labor of love we know as sparkling wine.
Sparkling Wine
In an era when women were excluded from the business world, Madame Clicquot dared to assume the head of the company Veuve Clicquot after her husband’s passing -- a role she undertook at a young age with passion and determination. While there is much debate on who pioneered ‘bubbly wine,’ we know one thing for sure: Madame Clicquot perfected the art of riddling (circa 1816 table de remuage) using her dining room table. This is an essential component of Champagne/Sparkling wine production today. Madame Clicquot’s character might be summarized with two words: audacious and intelligent. As fans of all things sparkling here at Edgefield Winery, we’re grateful for her foresight.
“The world is in perpetual motion, and we must invent the things of tomorrow. One must go before others, be determined and exacting, and let your intelligence direct your life. Act with audacity.” -- ‘La Grande Dame’ Madame Clicquot
