2019 Syrah

Chukar Ridge Vineyard, Washington

The 2019 Chukar Ridge Syrah offers a wonderful bouquet of redcurrant, blueberry, and vanilla. The palate has rich flavors of red plum, raspberries, and black cherries. The Syrah was Co-fermentation with Viognier to  soften the tannin profile while also melding in violet aromatics. Pair with grilled pork medallions, rack of lamb, or spicy pizza.

Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
Edgefield Winery has a long history with Chukar Ridge Vineyard, located on a steep South/Southeast facing slope outside of Dallesport in the Columbia Valley AVA. Originally planted in 1993, the site is comprised of fifteen acres of silty loam soil overlooking Mt. Hood and the Columbia Gorge. We began sourcing Syrah from the vineyard in 1995 and over the years have added Viognier and Tempranillo.
Food Pairing Notes
Syrah is delicious when paired with rich, fatty cuts of meat like bacon, pork chops, or beef spareribs. Firm, aged cheeses are a good choice as well.
Other Notes
Syrah is perhaps the best known varietal from the Rhône wine region of France, where it is vinified in styles ranging from elegant to opulent. Our Syrah is made in the style of a Côte-Rôtie, a Northern Rhône red wine made by co-fermenting Syrah with Viognier to achieve a balance between Syrah’s richness and Viognier’s floral aromatics.
