2017 Ferryman's Choice

Ferryman’s Choice is our vehicle for small, distinctive releases that change from year to year as our winemakers highlight special varietals or blends.

For 2017, we created a single vineyard Malbec, sourced from Summit View Vineyard in the Walla Walla Valley. Notes of blueberry, lavender, and cassis are supported by supple tannins and restrained oak influence.

Wine Profile
Food Pairing Notes
This is the perfect wine to pair with rich dishes such as roast beef and rack of lamb.
Although many people now associate Malbec with Argentina, it originally hails from the Bordeaux and Cahors regions of France. Other names for the grape are Auxerrois (not to be confused with the white variety of the same name), Côt Noir, and Pressac. Malbec wines tend dark in color and intensely flavored, with ample tannins.
Other Notes
The Ferryman’s Choice label is based on a 2011 painting that hangs at the Wilsonville McMenamins Pub. The title is “Boone Ferryman”, and the name “Charon” appears at the top of the original in Greek characters. The painting overlaps the ancient Greek story of Charon, the Ferryman of the River Styx, with Wilsonville history. Alphonso Boone, a grandson of Daniel Boone, came to the Oregon Territory in the 19th Century and established a ferry service on the banks of the Willamette River at what would later be the town of Wilsonville. Here, Alphonso is depicted as a kind of Charon of the Wild West.
